i have been trying to create a rule to take an all uppercase word and make it lower case and append with two digits. my under standing of hashcat rules is if i simply create a rule in a text file like

l $7 $8

this should transform the all upper word to lowercase and append with 78. this does not seem to be working on the new version of hashcat. am i doing something wrong???

t.txt contains

Code:
PASSWORD
UPPERCASE

h -a0 --stdout t.txt -r rules\temp.rule

Code:

I don't see an attack mode in your command: -a 0

You should try moving your mam.hccapx and hashwithuppercaseword.txt into your hashcat dir, makes your commands a little shorter.

for attack mode 0 i never run it as it picks it up automatically. tried moving to same dir but no difference.

i did a further test by adding the correct password into the text file instead of using the rule base to force and it finds the password straight away. this must be a bug in hashcat maybe
