Hello there,

I simple question for anyone. How come I have no luck resolving any the hashes in the paid section? Is there elite wordlist, masks, rules or am I just crap at doing it. I like to try the paid dumps now and then not for bounty just for my old brain satisfaction and fun. So what am I doing wrong

Cheers Kev

the paid section include ppl that crack hashs with their wordlist as u know..

when it become not profitable they will stop.
ppl some time offer 2-5$ for bcrypt.

not worth the time , power , and money when they are easy hash laying around.

+rep if i helped

Thanks for the reply . I have quite alot of wordlist now that I have made from hashes.org dumps and also hcmasks that I created from wordlist but still never resolve. I suppose its just takes more practice

I believe that there are several users that pre crack a dump, that way when a hash pops up in the paid section, they
simply check the hash against their hash:pass list. If its there, they post the found. Several users will post founds in less
then 45 seconds from when the post is created. Hashcat takes like 30 seconds to load up, which would leave less then 15 sec to crack it.

Its the only way that i can think of that they are able to crack so many so quickly. They were already done to begin with.

It's called breaking the rules:

Successful cracking is a combination of wordlists, rules, good hardware, etc, and the experience of knowing how to bring it all together. There's no silver bullet when it comes to wordlists / rules.

I personally think that hardware is a big factor. If you notice a lot of the hashes in the paid section are more hardware intensive algorithms. Bcrypt, phpass, PBKDF2, sha512crypt, very large lists of salted hashes, etc. For example I am currently limited to a single RX580 in an EGPU through a Thunderbolt 2 connection lol. So for me to run even two of the more hardware intensive algs through a decent set of lists just isn't feasible. There are of course other factors that come into play. Like knowledge of hash cracking and common algorithms used, quality of wordlists/rules, timing, using different attack methods, etc. Plus a lot of the guys that participate in the paid section have been around for years cracking, so you have a lot of competition lol.

For me, I have about 50 optimized lists under 100mb. Since I have only 1 card I have to be able to get through small lists quickly. I also randomize my lists because often times digits get placed at the top of sorted lists and many passes don't start with digits. Lastly, I keep my potfile small so Hashcat loads in a couple seconds. While Hashcat is loading I prepare the reply message with the cracked hash so if I crack it, I can just hit one button. After all of this I still seldom crack them before most people. Hope this helps.

Ah, but surely if they were achieving a 45s response that way, they would have been banned?
There has to be another explanation for them to be able to catch a post and respond to it
in 45s.
