Hmmmmm... Very tempting, that card would be a significant
improvement from what I'm using now.

Keep in mind that the HD 5970 is now almost a 10 year old card

You would have to roll back to a very early AMD driver and hashcat version
(probably something like oclHashcat?) to even get it running today

Due to the legacy driver, this card will not work in a rig alongside
any more modern GPUs either

Yes its an old card and for sure it will not work with latest AMD drivers. Looks like the latest legacy driver is 16.2.1 for HD 5xxx

https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows%2010%20-%2064

Latest driver is 18.7.1 for GCN captable cards. HD 5xxx is Non GCN.

Your in US as well so shipping would cost a bit also. I'll probably stick it on Gumtree or ebay soon and whoever wants it can have it

Just ordered another 2x GTX 1070 so will bring me to 9x GTX 1070 I'll post WPA/MD5/NTLM speeds in here once I have them setup. As the Asrock H110 BTC Pro board has onboard graphics, I can run them in headless mode so get full speed. OC I get ~330kHs with WPA each. With 9 of them, I will be ~3000kHs WPA.

Nice blandy
how long hashacat initilize to run ? as i assume You got got system RAM != GPU memory
i got 16gb ram and with 4x 1080 hashcat load kernels, inilialize run etc about 1 minute :/ i mean time from press enter to start cracking

You wont believe if I tell you I have 8GB RAM and it init in about 30-60 secs

I thought about this and rather than stuffing RAM into the mobo, (not really possible as only 2 slots and 32GB max), I can simple increase the pagefile.sys to 32-96 GB in size. This resolves the issue completely BUT does require you have have a fast SSD so get one with very good speed / IOs per sec.

I do have a M.2 slot but its SATA interrface and not NVMe annoyingly! I have a 128GB NVMe spare as well! Would have been perfect at 3000 MB/s read and 1500 MB/s write lol.

Blandy iam sure that wili give a lot of help but it write LOT of data each time when You run hashcat and as we all know SSD driver got max data what can be written before hardware failure. In this case it can be too fast

I've run an SSD for years, every day in my laptop and no issues at all. Get a good SSD and it's fine. Tbh, you can get a Crucial BX500 120GB SSD for like $25 lol. Not an issue and still shit loads cheaper even if I had to by 3-4 of them over time.

With the Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ with 13x PCIe slots, the M.2 slot is SATA based, not NVMe. Just info incase someone buys one.
