Hello aligatos.

As far as it concerns the GPU password cracking please find the below list which
includes the state of the art graphic cards, currently having the best performance :

01. Nvidia GTX Titan X (only available as reference design)
02. Nvidia GTX 980 Ti reference design
03. Nvidia GTX 980 reference design
04. Nvidia GTX 970 reference design
05. AMD R9 290X reference design
06. AMD Radeon HD 7970 reference design
07. AMD Radeon HD 7950 reference design
08. Nvidia GTX 960 (any)

That list has changed heavily. The 10 series cards are now suggested over the 9 series cards. As for laptops, don't bother. Even laptops with full power desktop 10 series GPUS are a bad idea due to thermal limitations.

You might be able to do it with a GPU docking station. Tho if i recall correctly, they are quite expensive.
Its basically an external enclosure for a regular PC GPU.

Tho you would have to look at how the enclosure hooks to the laptop. I know some of them use Thunderbolt port,
which the laptop might not have.
